Terms and risks

What Viru is, how your wallets and fees work, the risks, and your data, in plain language.

Plain-language version. A formal version reviewed by counsel is in progress and will replace this one.

What Viru is

Viru by TE is a website where students learn about investing with their campus. It shows live crypto prices, lets you hold crypto in wallets that only you control, and lets you swap one supported token for another on the Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, BNB Chain and Solana networks. It also has social features: profiles, campus pages, clans, an activity feed and a League that ranks real portfolio growth as a percentage.

Viru is not a bank, broker, exchange or investment adviser. Viru never holds your money or your keys and cannot move your funds. Every transaction is signed by you.

Your wallets

When you sign in, two wallets are created for you through Privy, a wallet provider: one EVM wallet (the same address on Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon and BNB Chain) and one for Solana. The keys are generated and kept on your behalf by Privy's secure system; Viru never sees them. If you lose access to your email, you may lose access to these wallets, so keep your email account safe.

Only send crypto to your EVM address on Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon or BNB Chain, and to your Solana address on the Solana network. Crypto sent on the wrong network can be lost permanently, and nobody can recover it.

Swaps and fees

A swap exchanges one token for another at the price available at that moment through a third-party route (0x on the EVM networks, Jupiter on Solana). Prices move; the amount you receive can differ from the preview, within the limit shown before you sign. Each swap shows every fee before you confirm. Viru charges no fee. Network fees go to the network, and 0x takes a small, uniform fee on EVM swaps that is shown on the preview.

On Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon and BNB Chain, Viru may add the small amount of the network's own coin a transaction of yours needs for its network fee, within limits, and may stop at any time. Whatever your transaction doesn't use stays in your wallet (all of it, if you don't sign); misuse ends this for the account.

Swaps are final. There are no refunds and no customer-service reversal.

Risks

Crypto prices are volatile and can fall sharply, including to zero. Only use money you can afford to lose. Past growth, including anything on the League, says nothing about future results.

Tokens on Viru are listed by neutral rules (verified addresses, size, liquidity, category). A listing is not an endorsement. The risk tiers describe size and volatility; they are not advice. Viru does not recommend any token, trade or strategy. Nothing on Viru is investment, legal or tax advice.

Software, networks and third-party services can fail or be attacked. Viru is provided as is, without warranties, and TE is not liable for losses from using it, to the extent the law allows.

Tokenized stocks

For people in the United States (including its territories), stocks and tokenized stocks are view-only on Viru: you can follow prices and join a waitlist, and Viru offers no token that tracks a stock price. If trading is ever offered to US residents, it will be through a registered broker-dealer under its own terms.

For people who live outside the United States, Viru can show tokenized stocks (xStocks, issued by Backed Finance) on the Solana network. They are offered under Regulation S and are not for US persons. To see them you must tell Viru the country you live in, and your connection must be outside the United States, both when you say so and whenever you trade. By declaring a country you confirm it is true; if you move to the United States, change it. Viru also keeps these tokens from people in countries under comprehensive US sanctions.

A tokenized stock is a token issued by a third party that, according to the issuer, is backed by the share and tracks its price. It does not make you a shareholder and carries the issuer's risk on top of the share's. On-chain liquidity is far thinner than the stock market's, so prices can move more than the share does. Trades in tokenized stocks are not posted to the feed.

Your data and privacy

Viru stores your email, your profile (username, display name, campus), the wallet addresses you have verified, daily portfolio values used for growth percentages, and your activity on Viru. Your holdings and dollar amounts are private by default; growth percentages are public by default. You can change these in Settings.

A school email added to join a campus is used once to send a code and is not kept. Viru does not sell your data.

Rules

You must be at least 18 and allowed to use crypto services where you live. Use your own accounts and wallets only. No fraud, impersonation, market manipulation or harassment. TE may remove accounts or content that break these rules.

These terms can change. Material changes will be announced on Viru. Continuing to use Viru after a change means you accept it.
