Meme coins, and why Viru leaves them out for now

What they are, why their prices swing so hard, and why they aren't on Viru for now.

What a meme coin is

A meme coin is a token whose value comes mostly from attention: a joke, a mascot, an online community. CoinGecko keeps a Meme category of them.

Some later add a game, an app or a community fund. Most have no business, revenue or product behind them, and their price rarely depends on one.

Why the price swings so hard

With no earnings to anchor it, a meme coin's price follows attention. A post or a new listing can double it in hours; when attention moves on, it can fall just as fast.

Drops of 50 to 90% within days are common, and many meme coins go to zero and never come back. Smaller coins have fewer buyers and sellers, so a few large holders can move the price a lot.

On Viru

Viru leaves meme coins out for now. Several keep part of every buy and sell for their own project, in ways no fee line on a trade screen shows, and Viru promises that every fee is shown before you sign.

If you already hold one in your Viru wallet, it's still yours and still in your wallet: Viru just doesn't show it or trade it for now. Any wallet app can see and move it.

Education only. Nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell anything.
